Governing classes

Horizontal fractal / vertical fractal

The two directions of the fractal structure. Horizontal fractal: the repetition of the same pattern across systems — family, guild, company, party, state, international order; the scale changes, the structure stays the same. Vertical fractal: the repetition of the same pattern within a class — every class contains its own top, middle, bottom and bureaucracy; the nested hierarchy continues until it reaches a single individual, an indivisible actor.

— Physis: A Theory of Power — Concept Glossary
