Abstract
The first chapter of the book establishes the theory's two founding concepts: Physis, the embodied form of the universal imperative to survive, and Nomos, the capacity for conscious choice that arises within it. The chapter distinguishes the agonistic and affiliative mechanisms of Physis, gives their neurobiological grounding, defines the threshold separating humans from other species through six capacities, and lays the ground for the rest of the book under the headings of existence, survival, the legitimacy test, interwovenness and the paradox of the corporate entity.
Keywords: physis, nomos, power conflict, death awareness, legitimacy test, corporate entity
